SANTA TERESITA HOSPITAL - EXPANSION
CLIENT: SANTA TERESITA HOSPITAL
The main project objective was to provide a cohesive central hub which would combine previously fragmented program spaces and improve patient flow throughout the campus. This was achieved by means of connecting daylit corridors, a central lobby with a clearly defined main entry and a single point of service upon entering the hospital. The central lobby was positioned for easy access to adjacent patient care service areas. Building components are arranged to provide maximum daylight through clerestory lighting and frequent connections to the outside environment. Various intimate courtyards and glass walled corridors provide warm light and assist the user in maintaining orientation throughout the building. Many niches and smaller inside and outside areas were created to maintain a human scale and provide a place of repose for one-on-one conversation or meditation, a key aspect of the Carmelite Sisters? life, who both own and operate the hospital.
