Occidental College Athletic Department Renovation
GC GMP or Design-Build | Oltmans Construction

Gonzalez Goodale Architects has been engaged with a number of institutional clients who understand that design can directly impact their effectiveness in recruitment and retention of their student body.  In the case of Occidental College, the athletics department was looking to create a space which would draw national talent, provide more effective and supportive facilities for their staff, and better celebrate their department's rich history.

Knowing the number of ' what-if's ' that can come from stripping back the layers accumulated over decades on a historical structure like their Myron Hunt building (1930), we recommended a collaborative delivery process and partnered with Oltmans Construction to assess the existing conditions of the facilities and infrastructure.  With Oltmans’ added insight into sensitive renovations, the team was able to give the client a realistic cost estimate along with advisement on potential impacts and triggers on the contextually sensitive campus as a whole. The client will be deciding on the collaborative delivery process at the next phase of work.
